Top Tips for a cosy Living Room
Although we are in the middle of a beautifully warm Summer, at Delcor, our team is now focusing our fabric choices and sofa designs on the colder months of Autumn and Winter.
So here are our top tips for making your living room and sofa perfect for snuggling in front of the fire with a hot chocolate or glass of warming wine in A/W 19 …
1. Layer up with decorative throws…
Add texture, colour and layers with knitted blankets and throws. Oversize chunky knits are so in vogue and can be easily changed to suit the season and your interior scheme. Throw them over your knee or shoulders on a chilly evening and use them to accessorise your Delcor sofa. Layering is good, so invest in several throws of differing materials and colours which complement each other and, if your sofa is patterned, then go for single colour throws to adorn your sofa or add a colour splash with multiple tones on a plain backdrop.

2. Colour is key!
Forget grey and white this Winter; colour is in; add a touch of opulence and create a bold palette with rich, deep tones of the new season. Blues, forest green or brick red work well either individually or grouped tastefully together in patterned fabrics or layered to create a luxuriously indulgent ambience.
Strong trends this season will be impactful florals, quirky tropicals and lavish thematic scenes. Be as brave as you wish with clashing schemes and bold, bright walls or tone down your key pieces with brass lamps and side tables and a backdrop of paneled walls and neutral flooring.

3. Get tactile with textures
Create a sumptuous array of welcoming textures, making your space a tactile delight to get comfortable in on colder nights. Soft velvets or warm merino wool provide a luxurious touch to upholstered pieces and soft furnishings; perfect for snuggling in the sofa in front of your favourite film. A delicately soft nubuck leather provides a touch of elegance and a sleek look to any living space; warm it up with fluffy cushions and patterned throws to complete the seasonal look.

4. Capture the aroma of Autumn
None of the 5 senses should be forgotten when creating your perfect space and a memorable aroma always makes a pleasant welcome and a lasting impact. Recreate your favourite times of the year with scented candles and room fragrances to compliment your interior. Fragrance isn’t just for Christmas with bergamot, frankincense and amber all fabulous choices for a base fragrance for your home, all year round. Matching scents shall ensure that all your rooms benefit and there are no clashes of aroma; use a few drops in an oil burner or enjoy a slow burning multi-wick candle with the added benefit of a warming glow in the darker evenings.
5. Light up the dark nights
As evenings start to draw in and daylight hours become shorter, how you light your living space is really important. Nurture a welcoming glow with mood lighting and dimmable lights and lamps. Warming colours of lamps help to create the look you are aiming for and coloured, attractive bulbs, which look great on or off are great for reflecting your design tastes. A wood-burning stove will help to create a cosy mood in your home with the added flicker of a scented candle or two to conjure up some romance.
Brass, bronze and glass lamps, tables and mirrors cleverly bounce the light around the room, enhancing warmth and creating the perfect room for ultimate cosiness!
6. Reflect your style
Add a touch of vintage decadence and adorn your walls with uniquely styled mirrors, helping to reflect light around your room. Black, greys and brass complement most decors with the mirror design marking your personal preference on style and era.
Make your mirror a focal point in your living room and go as large as the room can take, being creative with placing. Even consider a large floor standing mirror in a large room as a design piece and ensure the perfect feng shui with some greenery and fresh flowers.

7. Dare to be different
Make a design statement in your room with a unique piece of furniture. A well-designed chair works well or a giant footstool, which doubles up as a low level coffee table. Make your mark with a carefully selected fabric which sets you apart from the crowd…be bold, be brave! Animal fabrics, opulent patterns and vibrant colours in a tactile material such as velvet shall draw attention and offer a practical solution which can be re-upholstered when its time to restyle your room.

Will it Fit?
It is important to make sure that your new Delcor furniture will fit into your home. This quick guide will help you to work out if your furniture will fit into your room via doors, hallways and stairs.
If it does not fit, then don’t worry - all of our furniture is custom made and for a nominal charge is able to come apart and be assembled on-site by our qualified delivery team.
Firstly, note down the length, depth and height of your furniture. This information can be found on the product pages of our website.
Front Door
Let's start at the front door. Open the door as wide as possible and measure the distance between the outer edge of the door to the inner edge of your doorframe at its narrowest point.
Compare the width of your doorframe with the height of your item allowing a little wiggle room on either side. This will determine if we can take the item through on its side. If the door width is greater than the height of your item, then it will fit through.
If the width of your front door is too narrow, then our delivery team can try to bring your item through upright. In this case, measure the height of your doorway making sure that it is greater than your item width. Again, check that there is some wiggle room.
If it does not fit give us a call as we can take off the legs or look at alternatives such as taking your furniture apart and assembling it on-site.
Hallways
We need to make sure your furniture can get into the room that you’d like it to sit in. Measure the width of any areas that the item must pass through, such as hallways and internal doors at their narrowest points.
Remember to take note of possible obstructions such as radiators, shelving, skirting boards and light fittings. As long as the width at the narrowest point is greater than the height of your item, then your furniture will fit.
Stairs
If your furniture needs to go up any stairs, measure the width of the staircase at its narrowest point. Remember to take any handrails or light fixtures into account. If this distance is wider than the height of your item then it should fit.
If you have a bannister and the furniture needs to be lifted over it, check that the distance between the bannister and the ceiling is greater than the depth of the item. Once at the top of the stairs, make sure there is enough room on the landing for our delivery team to manoeuvre your item into your chosen room.
If you have any questions please give us a call or pop into one of our showrooms, we would be happy to help.
The final part of the Delcor experience is delivery. We understand the importance of and respect that is required when delivering to your home – that’s why we do it ourselves. All our deliveries and installations are carried out by our own trained delivery teams using our own vehicles.
We will call you 7 to 14 days prior to your delivery to discuss the exact dates. At that time, we can talk about an am or pm delivery. You can change your delivery slot at any time but this may affect when the next delivery slot will be available.
On the day we will give you a call one hour before your delivery is due. We will remove and packaging and ensure the room is left just as we found it. Please ensure that the room is ready and the space for your new piece of furniture is ready. Unfortunately, we cannot remove any old furniture due to health and safety.
